Chapter Fifteen

Not having anywhere to go, I stayed in the condo that Gordon and I once shared. As the days went on, the more I missed him. All I wanted to do was sleep so that he could come and spend time with me in my dreams. I longed for him to come walking through the door to be with me, but I had to come to the realization that this would never happen again. The more I tried to get myself out of this rut, the more I was sinking deeper into it. I was able to manage to pay the bills for the first two months, but after that all the credit cards and the bank accounts had been closed. I ended up having to pawn most of the jewelry that Gordon had given to me. It hurt my heart to sell it, but I had no choice; I needed the money to survive. I had no lights, little food, and no money. I had to figure out what I was going to do, but with no one to turn to, my hands were tied. I was back at square one, alone, and depressed.

I got up, hoping that the water company had not yet come to turn the water off. When the water came flowing out of the pipe, I quickly took a shower. When I finished, I wrapped my towel around me. Walking into my bedroom, I was greeted by a man who was sitting on my bed. Frighten, I nearly jumped out of my skin.

“Who the hell are you? And what the do you want?” I screamed, holding on tightly to my towel.

“Calm down young thang.” The man stood with his hands held up.

Just then, Candice came around the corner into my bedroom.

“Nice little place you have here,” Candice said, looking around. She walked around like she was taking a stroll in the park, enjoying the scenery.

“Not you again!” I rolled my eyes.

“Yes, it is me again,” Candice answered back sarcastically. “You got one hour to get your things and get the hell out of here.”

I stared at her like she was stupid and out of her mind. “Candice, this is my place. Now, you get the hell out!”

“That’s where you are wrong boo-boo! This condo is in my husband’s name. Being that he is dead, it now belongs to me. You got 30 minutes to be gone.”

“Lies, and you know it!”

Candice raised one of her eyebrows. “Shall I make it 15 minutes?”

By the look on Candice’s face, I could tell she was serious. I hurried up, got dressed, and packed whatever I could. Rushing down to the elevator, I quickly went to my parking spot to put my clothes in the trunk of my car. With Candice and her head honcho in tow, I pressed the button on my car keys, popping open my trunk.

Candice moved her pointer finger from side to side. “Ah, ah, I don’t think you will be taking that Benz, deary.” Candice slowly pointed at me.
